Investors urge the Egyptian government to end the customs tariffs on solar panel imports

Customs duties are taxes levied on the import and export of goods by the government or supranational unions of a country. Import tax is not only a source of government revenue, but also a form of foreign trade restriction and a policy of taxing foreign products to encourage or protect domestic industry.

So, investors who are concerning high value of this market financially and economically, are mostly urging with the Egyptian government to put an end to customs tariffs on solar panel imports.

 On January 6, 2022 Al Mal newspaper reported on Wednesday “basically, more than 100 investors from the Solar Energy Development Association (SEDA Egypt) had sent a letter to the Minister of Power, Mohammed Shaker, calling for the elimination of tariffs on solar panel imports.”

in December 2021, Dr. Farouk El-Baz claimed that Egypt is fond of solar energy more any other countries. He argued that the maps show the truth which is the Western Desert and a part of Libya get hold of the maximum solar energy with inside the whole world.

In 2018, this country instated the Benban Solar Park, the biggest solar power park in the world.

Egypt which is one of the members of Technology Transfer and Exchange Network (D8tten) has embarked on a mega solar power project as part of its vision for 2030. This station has several characteristics. In two years, 126 solar power stations were built by Egypt.

The capacity of the solar power station built by the government is 1.8 MW. The capacity of the station is between 5 kW and 500 kW. The economics of solar energy components and their prices are very high amongst all countries.

With all these capacities and growth at this market, economists almost agree that tariffs have a negative impact on economic growth and prosperity, while free trade and the removal of trade barriers have a positive impact on it.
