Technology is an essential need to increase industrial productivity

RAJSHAHI, Nov 30, 2020 (BSS) in a one-day workshop on Sunday, speakers unanimously called for the upgrading of modern technologies in the region’s manufacturing sector, emphasizing the importance of increasing productivity.

All relevant public and private sectors must work together to achieve national goals in the field of increasing productivity and responding to the growing demand that results from population growth, as well as solving the problems caused by coronavirus.

They faced these observations while participating in a collaborative discussion at the “Technology is Necessary for Sustainable Development” workshop in Rajshahi.

About 150 scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, especially small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs), and other stakeholders joined the workshop, and many of them participated in the free discussion and shared their advice on how to increase the dynamism of industrial productivity.

The Rajshahi Laboratory of the Bangladesh Scientific and Industrial Research Council hosted the workshop in its conference hall on the occasion of Mujib Bursha in 2020, coinciding with the 100th birthday of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The President of BCSIR, Professor Aftab Ali Sheikh, was the keynote speaker at the meeting, while Zakir Hussein and Secretary Abdul Arik spoke as special guests with Dr. Ibrahim Hussein, Senior Scientific Director and Director of BCSIR, at the Rajshahi Laboratory.

BCSIR Principal Scientific Officer Badrul Islam gave an illustration on the issue during his keynote presentation.

Professor Aftab Ali said the current government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister) Sheikh Hasina (has taken timely measures to inspire entrepreneurs to produce qualified products to counter the Covid-19 epidemic.

On April 5, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced a package of 20,000 TK, including low-interest loan facilities through the banking system to maintain the capacity of small, medium-sized enterprises (CMSME) which are affected by the Corona virus, he said.

Professor Ali said that “the government has set a vision for 2021 and 2041, the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030”, and he has also worked tirelessly to achieve these visions.

He asked the entrepreneurs to complete the government’s actions by increasing the quality of the products.

Professor Ali also asked them to gain consumer satisfaction, because the profitability and sustainability of the industry are two important factors. Improving productivity is considered as the most important factor for the national economy and will accelerate the development of the entire economy.

In his remarks, Zakir Hussein noted that “the government is committed to achieve the sustainable development goals by 2030 and that there would be no option to increase productivity in all sectors”.

“Productivity plays an important role in increasing production, savings, and investment and job opportunities for the people of the country,” he said.

Zakir Hussain added: “Recent performance in economic growth and changes in Bangladesh’s social indicators have attracted the attention of global economists, the political and business community to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic.”
